Shalamov was a regular visitor at the Taganka Theater since its founding. This theater reminded him of his early theatrical experiments, including the Meyerhold Theater.
Shalamov also dreamed to see his own plays on stage. He wanted to write a play called “Vechernie besedy” (“Evening Talks”) for the Taganka Theater, but it was left uncompleted in the mid-1970s. Only in 2014 was Shalamov’s play “Anna Ivanovna” brought to life by the director Aleksei Levinskii in accordance with the author’s concept.
