Kuntsevo Cemetery

The funeral services were organized by Elena Zakharova, who had taken care of Shalamov during his last six months in the elderly home. The plot in the Kuntsevo Cemetery was allocated for the Union of Writers, but no official civil funerals were held in the House of Writers. Elena Zakharova herself refused to participate in a viewing of his body, choosing funeral services instead. Only a few people attended them, and some read Shalamov's poems aloud.
