Address: 35 Abramtsevskaya Street, Moscow
Shalamov became increasingly well-known among dissidents and his acquaintances due to his samizdat and tamizdat publications. Due to this increased attention, the administration of the nursing home decided to transfer Shalamov to a psychoneurological institution. He was transported there during the winter in an unheated van, after which he caught a severe cold. Shalamov died of pneumonia and heart failure two days later in the institution.
