In the second half of the 1970s, members of the movement promoting emigration to Israel regularly held demonstrations on the steps of the Lenin Library. These demonstrations were often dedicated to the anniversary of the 1970 Dymshits-Kuznetsov hijacking affair. The participants carried posters with slogans such as “Freedom for the prisoners of Zion,” “Visas instead of prison,” and “Allow us to leave the Soviet Union.”
